Woman Apprehended with Suspected Drugs at Abeokuta Custodial Centre

Officials at the Medium Security Custodial Centre located in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, recently detained a woman on suspicion of attempting to introduce psychoactive substances into the correctional facility. This development was confirmed by the Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, through a public statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.

Olayinka reported that the apprehension occurred at approximately 1:33 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a standard security check at the custodial centre's entry point. The suspect, who was visiting an inmate designated as being on death row, was found with a sachet of Milo beverage that allegedly concealed substances believed to be “colos” by vigilant correctional officers.

The statement further clarified that the suspected prohibited items were uncovered during the routine screening procedure at the main gate. The command emphasized that “The discovery underscored the vigilance of our personnel and our commitment to preventing illicit substances and other prohibited items from entering custodial facilities.” Following her detention, the woman was transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for comprehensive investigation and potential legal action, adhering to standard protocols.

Kamoru Adesina, the Controller of Corrections for the Ogun State Command, lauded the officers involved for their sharp observation and professional conduct. Adesina also reaffirmed the Service's strict policy of zero tolerance against drug peddling and other unlawful acts within their facilities. He underscored the point that “correctional centres were established for the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates and should not be allowed to become channels for the circulation of illicit substances.” The command issued a strong caution to the public, advising against any attempts to undermine the security of correctional facilities by introducing banned items, stressing that individuals caught in such activities would face the full wrath of the law.
