Veteran NFL Running Back Miles Sanders Faces DUI Charges After Arrest

Miles Sanders, a 29-year-old seasoned running back in the National Football League, has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania and is now facing charges for driving under the influence, as revealed by court documents. The arrest of Sanders occurred on June 8 in Churchill Borough, an area situated just outside Pittsburgh, close to his hometown. He was formally charged last week with driving while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, alongside a charge of careless driving.

Reports from the police indicate that officers discovered Sanders in his vehicle, which was stationary in the middle of the road, appearing to be "in and out of consciousness" and slumped over the driver's seat. Law enforcement officials stated that Sanders exhibited poor performance during a field sobriety test and had a strong odor of alcohol. According to the officers, he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier that day and subsequently failed a breath test, which confirmed the presence of alcohol. Furthermore, police allege that marijuana was found inside Sanders' vehicle during the incident.

Sanders' collegiate career saw him play football for Penn State before the Philadelphia Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Eagles before moving to the Carolina Panthers for two seasons. Last year, he played for the Dallas Cowboys and is currently a free agent, with the 2026 NFL season reportedly scheduled to commence in two weeks. Phil DiLucente, Sanders' attorney, released a statement to CBS Pittsburgh, saying, "This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment." Sanders is slated to appear in court on October 28 for his preliminary hearing.
