A violent confrontation between young people from Buskuwa and Mabani communities in Bauchi State's Gamawa Local Government Area has resulted in one fatality and six injuries. The Bauchi State Police Command verified this incident, which began on Monday night, August 25, 2026. The initial spark for the unrest was an alleged assault on three youths from Mabani village—Babangida Musa (20), Usman Abdu (20), and Ya’u Muhammad (18)—by individuals suspected to be from Buskuwa. According to Nafiu Habib, the command's spokesperson, these three were reportedly attacked with sticks around 8 PM while en route to Buskuwa. A suspect connected to the incident has since been apprehended by the police.

Confirming the sequence of events, Mr. Habib stated: "The incident began on Monday, 25th August 2026 at about 2000hrs when three persons from Mabani village, namely Babangida Musa, 20 years; Usman Abdu, 20 years; and Ya’u Muhammad, 18 years, were allegedly attacked on their way to Buskuwa village by a group of unidentified youths suspected to be from Buskuwa." He further detailed that the victims suffered various degrees of injuries from the stick assault.

Later that same night, a retaliatory attack unfolded. Jumba Adamu from Mabani village reportedly rallied youths from his community, leading them to Buskuwa village. There, they assaulted residents using sticks. This counter-attack tragically led to the immediate death of Muhammadu Dare, with several other residents sustaining injuries, Mr. Habib explained.

Responding swiftly, security personnel from the Gamawa Division, supported by local hunters and vigilante groups, quickly deployed to the conflict zone. Mr. Habib confirmed that: "The injured victims and the corpse were immediately evacuated to General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical attention and postmortem examination. The attending medical doctor certified the deceased de@d. Three victims were admitted and are currently receiving treatment, while three others were treated and discharged." The police spokesperson also affirmed that operations are underway to identify and arrest other individuals implicated in the violence. He concluded by stating, "Preliminary investigation has commenced, and upon conclusion, the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution."
