Lagos Airport Police Set to Prosecute 13 Suspects Over Theft of Building Materials

The Lagos Airport Police Command has announced its intention to arraign 13 individuals who were apprehended for allegedly stealing building materials from construction sites at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to a statement released by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola, the suspects were arrested on July 30 by the Joint Monitoring Task Force during a coordinated patrol of the airport's construction area. This effort is part of the command's ongoing commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and preventing acts that could undermine the rehabilitation of the airport. The suspects, who were found in possession of high-value copper cables, iron components, and other building materials, were handed over to the International Airport Police Division for further investigation and prosecution. The individuals involved have been identified as Ibrahim Hassan, Haruna Yaya, Ali Muhammed, Walid Shaibu, Idris Musa, Aliu Musa, Mustapha Umaru, Timothy Joseph, Isa Adamu, Musa Abdullahi Hassan, Mamuda Ibrahim, Mukhtar Aliyu, and Ibrahim Jidda. Despite previous successes in prosecuting similar offenses in April 2026, the command notes that some criminal elements continue to target construction sites. The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, commended the Joint Monitoring Task Force for its efforts and reiterated that the safety and security of the airport remain a top priority, urging the public to remain vigilant.
