Tinubu's Security Boost: New Army Division to Enhance North-Central Safety

The establishment of the Nigerian Army's 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, has been hailed by Governor Hyacinth Alia as a significant move to bolster the nation's security framework. According to Alia, this development, which is part of the army's expansion from eight to 12 divisions nationwide, underscores President Bola Tinubu's unwavering commitment to strengthening national security. The governor made this known in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, on Thursday. The approval of the new division, Alia noted, will considerably improve military operations in the region, covering Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states, through enhanced command and control, quicker response to security threats, and better protection of lives and property. The governor expressed optimism that the new military formation would complement his administration's efforts to curb criminal activities and improve security in the state. He praised President Tinubu for approving the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel into the Nigerian Army and for sustaining investments in military equipment, troop welfare, and operational readiness. Alia assured of his administration's continued collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies to achieve lasting peace, security, and sustainable development in Benue State. The establishment of the Makurdi Division is a timely intervention that demonstrates President Tinubu's commitment to addressing the security challenges confronting the country, the governor said. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, had earlier approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding for the newly established Nigerian Army divisions, as the military expands its command structure to strengthen operations nationwide.
