Tragedy Unfolds as Zambian Man Takes Own Life Amidst Allegations of Defiling Minor

A shocking incident has occurred in Zambia, where a 46-year-old internal auditor, David Phiri, was found dead at his plot in Mambwe District. According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, the deceased had been on leave and was staying at the Council Guest House while working on his plot. On the evening of 25th July 2026, Phiri was seen socializing with friends at a bar in Mambwe's Central Business District, where he consumed beer and played pool. However, he later parted ways with his friends and returned to his plot. It is reported that nearby residents heard a scream coming from the direction of his plot around 02:00 hours on 26th July 2026, but they did not investigate the matter. The body of the deceased was discovered by members of the public at around 07:00 hours, and the police were subsequently alerted. Upon inspecting the scene, officers found no visible injuries on the body but detected a strong chemical smell and discovered particles suspected to be maize preservative tablets, as well as a bottle of whisky. While the motive behind Phiri's actions is still unknown, there are unconfirmed allegations that he had defiled his 15-year-old housemaid in Chadiza before traveling to Mambwe. The police are currently investigating this claim, and the body has been deposited at the Mambwe District Hospital Mortuary pending burial. The police have ruled out foul play in the incident. As stated by Mr. Mweemba, 'The motive for taking his life is not known. However, there are unverified allegations that the deceased had allegedly defiled his 15-year-old housemaid in Chadiza before travelling to Mambwe. This allegation is still subject to police investigations and has not been confirmed.'
