Bauchi Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Woman for Allegedly Killing Newborn Baby

A disturbing incident has unfolded in Bauchi State, where a 20-year-old woman, Rabi Abubakar, has been taken into custody by the police for her alleged role in the death of a newborn baby. The tragedy occurred on July 17, 2026, in Daba Village, Bauchi Local Government Area, during a heated domestic dispute. According to SP Nafiu Habib, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, the suspect allegedly poured boiling water on her 30-year-old co-wife, who was pregnant at the time, resulting in severe burns. The victim was promptly rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. Despite her critical condition, the victim gave birth to a baby boy on July 19, 2026. Unfortunately, the newborn succumbed to severe burn injuries and passed away on the same day. The police were notified of the incident on July 22, 2026, and immediately launched an investigation. Upon arresting the suspect, she confessed to committing the crime during preliminary questioning. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has condemned the act in strong terms and assured the public that the command will ensure diligent prosecution of the matter. He also urged citizens to resolve disputes peacefully and report cases of domestic violence to the police for prompt intervention.
