ISWAP Terrorists Fall in Ambush as Troops Secure Maiduguri

In a daring operation, troops of the 73 Battalion, in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully ambushed and neutralised two suspected ISWAP terrorists near the University of Maiduguri in Borno State. The ambush took place at approximately 12:15 a.m. on July 16, 2026, along the Tamsukawu Road behind the university. As the terrorists moved along the route, they were met with a hail of gunfire from the troops, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspects, while others fled into the nearby bushes. Following the encounter, the troops conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area but were unable to make further contact with the fleeing terrorists. Military sources revealed that the operation is part of the ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to restrict the movement of terrorists around Maiduguri and its environs, particularly along routes frequently used by insurgents for infiltration. Despite the success of the operation, security forces remain on high alert due to the unpredictable nature of the operational environment. The operation is a testament to the commitment of the military to securing the region and denying terrorists the freedom to operate.
