Darian Berry Sr. Arrested Following Extensive Search After Child's Mother Shot in Flovilla

Darian Berry Sr., a 46-year-old convicted felon, has been taken into custody following an extensive 10-hour pursuit, accused of allegedly shooting the mother of his child. This dramatic apprehension brings to an end a significant search operation initiated after the incident, which unfolded on Tuesday morning, July 14, in the city of Flovilla, Butts County, situated approximately 50 miles south of Atlanta.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest, noting the suspect's attempt to evade law enforcement. In a statement released by the sheriff’s office, they commented, “He made the choice to run, but he could not outrun the determination of law enforcement or the incredible tracking ability of the bloodhounds that ultimately helped bring him into custody.”

Law enforcement officers were initially dispatched following calls regarding a domestic disturbance that involved Berry. Prior to his flight, charges indicate that Berry had allegedly tried to confine or limit his victim. Additionally, he faced accusations of both arson and stalking. Upon the arrival of the deputies, Berry reportedly absconded on foot, believed to be in possession of a handgun, which immediately triggered a large-scale search operation.

A "be on the lookout" (BOLO) alert was subsequently disseminated throughout the Georgia community as authorities intensified their efforts to pinpoint the suspect’s location. Authorities credited a bloodhound from the Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit with playing a pivotal role in tracking Berry, leading to his apprehension by Tuesday evening.

Darian Berry Sr. is now confronted with a comprehensive list of charges, which include aggravated assault, stalking, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, obstruction, two counts of arson, battery, family violence, and false imprisonment.
