The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken into custody a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, following allegations that he fatally assaulted his 20-year-old wife. The tragic incident unfolded in the Angwan Yahaya area of Agyaragu, located within the Obi Local Government Area.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday night, July 12, 2026. Amodu reportedly admitted to the act, stating he was overcome with anger after his wife allegedly declined to prepare a meal.

The police investigation commenced after a formal complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division, detailing that the suspect had assaulted his spouse, leading to her death. According to Amodu's confession during interrogation, an argument erupted between them, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, ultimately resulting in his wife's demise. He has since expressed regret for his actions.

This unfortunate event has left two young children, a boy and a girl from their six-year marriage, without their mother.

CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State, vehemently condemned all forms of domestic violence. He characterized the incident as both tragic and entirely preventable. The Commissioner has instructed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a comprehensive, discreet, and swift investigation.

CP Mohammed reassured the public that justice would be served, confirming that Musbawu Amodu would face charges in court once the investigation concludes. He further appealed to couples and families to prioritize dialogue, patience, and legal avenues for resolving disputes, emphasizing that no disagreement warrants the loss of human life. The Command also assured residents that peace and order are maintained in Agyaragu and its environs, with ongoing monitoring.
