Foreign Terrorist Facilitators Exposed After ISWAP's Failed Borno Infiltration

Nigerian military forces under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), successfully repelled a planned assault by suspected ISWAP terrorists on Cross Kauwa in Borno State's Kukawa Local Government Area. The encounter resulted in significant losses for the attackers.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026. He revealed that troops recovered a camcorder containing crucial intelligence materials, which indicated the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators in the foiled attack.
Preliminary forensic analysis conducted by military intelligence officers on the seized camera uncovered operational videos and propaganda content. The most recent recording prior to the attempted infiltration allegedly showed the operation being orchestrated by four senior ISWAP commanders working alongside three foreign nationals. These foreign operatives were identified as Abu Ishaq, a Palestinian Arab believed to be the group's chief trainer; Abu Thaiba, a Moroccan reportedly serving as a medical doctor within the terrorist network; and another Arab operative whose identity is still under investigation.
The attack unfolded around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, when numerous terrorists attempted to breach the military's position under the cover of darkness. The statement highlighted that troops from 19 Brigade, Sector 3, OPHK, decisively thwarted the infiltration, causing heavy casualties and forcing the terrorists to retreat in disarray.
This successful defense underscores the vigilance and combat readiness of the troops, who continue to restrict the freedom of action for terrorist elements across the North East. Alert troops quickly detected the hostile movement and responded with overwhelming firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their mission of looting cholera medical supplies.
The attempted theft of medical supplies supports recent intelligence pointing to a cholera outbreak within terrorist enclaves, along with reports of ISWAP executing some of its members affected by the disease. The neutralization of a terrorist cameraman during the assault led to the recovery of the Sony camcorder containing highly sensitive recordings.
Beyond the camcorder, troops also recovered various rounds of PKT and 7.62 mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat accessories. Initial analysis of post-engagement satellite imagery confirmed terrorists evacuating the bodies of their fallen fighters during their withdrawal. This information was further corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, affirming severe losses for the terrorists, with many sustaining gunshot wounds.
Two soldiers suffered gunshot wounds during the firefight but were promptly airlifted for advanced medical treatment and are currently in stable condition. This failed infiltration marks another significant operational setback for ISWAP, capping a challenging weekend for the group amidst sustained offensive operations and intensified military pressure across the North East. The outcome demonstrates the increasing difficulty terrorists face in executing coordinated attacks against well-prepared troops, further degrading their combat capabilities and morale.
Operation HADIN KAI remains steadfast in its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, safeguarding vulnerable communities, and dismantling terrorist networks until enduring peace and security are fully restored in the North East region.
