Plateau State Sees Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity as Man is Beaten to Death

In a heart-wrenching incident, Hannatu Bello has shared the painful story of how her younger brother, Abdullahi Bello, was brutally beaten to death in the Rantiya community of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State. According to Hannatu, her brother had physical features that resembled those of the Fulani ethnic group, but he was not Fulani. This mistaken identity, it seems, led to his tragic demise. Hannatu recounted that she received a distressing call from a police officer, informing her that her brother had been found lying on the ground, beaten by unknown individuals. The officer asked her to come to the hospital in Dadin Kowa, where she found her brother unconscious. Upon inquiry, the Investigating Police Officer handling the case explained that vigilantes had reported the incident, stating that Abdullahi was mistaken for a Fulani person and subsequently attacked. The IPO revealed that the victim was macheted and strangled, with visible blood stains on his body. When asked if the deceased was Fulani, Hannatu categorically denied it, stating that he was her biological brother and they did not belong to the Fulani ethnic group. The family is now calling on the Plateau State Police Command to investigate the matter thoroughly and apprehend the perpetrators. With Abdullahi's phone still in police custody, the family hopes that the authorities can track his last calls and identify the individuals responsible for his death. Hannatu urged the government to ensure justice for her brother, emphasizing that they are peaceful people who deserve justice. The family is confident that the state government will take necessary actions to bring the culprits to book.
