A fatal shooting incident unfolded on Sunday, June 28, in San Jose, California, leaving one individual dead and another critically injured. The violence occurred close to San Pedro Square, a bustling entertainment area popular with World Cup enthusiasts. The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) reported that the shooting happened around 9:12 PM local time (0412 GMT) at the intersection of North Market and West Santa Clara streets.

Police officials confirmed that one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident. A second victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. The SJPD has initiated a homicide investigation into the matter.

Although the day's World Cup festivities had concluded, local reports indicated that the entertainment district remained vibrant with numerous visitors and residents present when the shooting took place. Authorities swiftly arrived at the location, leading to the closure of several surrounding streets. The public was strongly advised to steer clear of the area. Details regarding the duration of these road closures were not immediately available.

Eyewitnesses and security personnel described a scene of pandemonium following the gunfire, noting that emergency medical teams were observed attending to one of the victims. As of now, the identities of those involved have not been disclosed, and no information concerning potential suspects or a motive for the attack has been released.
