The Rivers State Police Command recently announced a significant operational achievement, confirming the apprehension of a suspected high-profile armed robbery figure and the retrieval of various firearms along with live ammunition. According to a statement released on Monday, June 29, 2026, by the command's spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the individual taken into custody has been identified as Austine Emenike, who is widely known by his alias, “Oyibo.” Investigations so far suggest Emenike's connection to a broader criminal enterprise. ASP Kaborlo further noted that police efforts are currently focused on identifying and apprehending other members of this gang, in addition to fully exposing the extent of their illicit operations.

The official police statement highlighted the command's "major operational success" in its ongoing fight against violent criminality. This achievement involved the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of numerous weapons and ammunition during a meticulously planned intelligence-led operation. Acting on reliable intelligence and under the explicit directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcia, command operatives swiftly moved to apprehend Austine Emenike, also known as “Oyibo,” who hails from Aluu Village in Rivers State. The items seized during the operation included a locally fabricated pistol, four single-barrel guns, and five live cartridges. Initial inquiries have indeed indicated that Emenike is part of a larger criminal network. The statement also confirmed that detectives are actively following crucial leads to identify and bring to justice other individuals involved in the gang, while simultaneously working to uncover the full scope of their illicit activities.

CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, extended his commendation to the officers involved, praising their bravery, professional conduct, and dedication to their responsibilities. He reiterated the Command's unwavering commitment to ensuring that no criminal elements find refuge anywhere within the state's borders. CP Adepoju remarked, "This arrest and the recovery of these dangerous weapons underscore our resolve to proactively tackle violent crime and protect the law-abiding people of Rivers State. We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations until criminal elements are completely rooted out.”

Furthermore, CP Adepoju urged the residents of Rivers State to maintain a high level of vigilance and security awareness. He specifically appealed to them to report any suspicious individuals, movements, or activities to the Police without delay. The Commissioner stressed that the collaboration of the public and the provision of reliable intelligence are absolutely essential for the collective goal of fostering a safer and more secure environment across Rivers State.
