ISWAP Spy, Prevent Attack on Borno Military Bases — Troops Apprehend

Personnel from Operation Hadin Kai have successfully apprehended an individual suspected of being an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) spy. This arrest is linked to a planned assault on two distinct military installations located in Borno State. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was taken into custody by soldiers of the 212 Battalion, who are stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Chabbol. The operation followed credible human intelligence regarding an imminent terrorist strike.
The apprehension occurred at approximately 7:55 a.m. on June 26, 2026, during a routine perimeter patrol. The suspect was found about 500 metres beyond the anti-vehicle ditch that serves as a protective barrier for the base. Initial investigations have revealed that Shuaibu was connected to an ISWAP plot targeting the 199 Special Forces Battalion, commonly known as Mosquito Camp, as well as FOB Chabbol.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the planned attack and further disclosed that the terrorists intended to proceed with their operation irrespective of his capture. Military sources indicate that the prompt arrest allowed troops to significantly enhance security measures around the designated targets and bolster defensive preparations against any potential aggression. Muhammad Shuaibu has since been transferred to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for more in-depth inquiry. This arrest underscores Operation Hadin Kai's ongoing intelligence-led efforts aimed at disrupting terrorist schemes, dismantling insurgent networks, and reinforcing the security of military formations across Nigeria's North-East region.
