Delta Police Clamp Down on Cable Vandals, Seize Stolen Wires

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of vandalizing electric cables in Kwale, located within the Ndokwa West Local Government Area. The police also recovered the vandalized cables from the suspects.
According to a statement released to journalists in Warri on Saturday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests occurred on June 25, 2026. At approximately 10:30 AM on the said date, officers from Kwale Police Station, working in conjunction with members of a local vigilante group, received credible intelligence. The tip-off indicated that suspected vandals were actively dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road. The combined team swiftly mobilized to the reported scene.
Upon the arrival of the security team, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee to evade capture. During the ensuing operation, one of the suspects sustained an injury and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, while the other individual has been taken into custody. The apprehended suspects were later identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28 years old, and Ekene Obocha, 34 years old. The vandalized electric cables have been secured and are being held as exhibits.
In response to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, issued a stern warning to criminal elements. He urged them to desist from vandalizing critical government infrastructure and other public assets, emphasizing that the command is resolute in its commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting all offenders. CP Oyeniyi further appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to aid their efforts in maintaining law and order.
