Soldiers Apprehend Alleged Drug Peddler, Recover 235kg Cannabis on Lokoja-Abuja Axis

Troops operating under the Quick Reaction Group (QRG) in Abaji have successfully intercepted an individual suspected of drug trafficking and confiscated a substantial haul of 235 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis sativa along the critical Lokoja-Abuja Highway.
Information from military sources indicates that this arrest occurred during a routine snap check conducted around 7:50 p.m. on June 22, 2026.
The troops flagged down a white Toyota Avalon XLS, bearing Kaduna State registration number BNG-326BN. The vehicle was reportedly en route to Abuja from Okitipupa in Ondo State.
Upon a thorough inspection, officers unearthed 273 compressed packets believed to contain cannabis sativa, with an estimated total weight of 235 kilogrammes.
The driver, identified as Ayodeji John, 30 years old, was immediately taken into custody by the troops.
Initial inquiries reportedly confirmed Mr. John's involvement in transporting the illegal consignment.
Both the apprehended suspect and the seized illicit substances were subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on June 23 for further investigative procedures and potential prosecution.
Military authorities highlighted that this operation demonstrates the unwavering vigilance and professional conduct of the troops in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking and other criminal acts nationwide.
They further emphasized that this successful interdiction significantly curtails the operational freedom of criminal elements and bolsters national security efforts aimed at curbing the movement of prohibited substances.
No casualties or security breaches were reported throughout the duration of the operation.
