The Abia State Police Command has announced the apprehension of fifteen individuals and the seizure of fifteen vehicles as part of an intensified operation targeting registration plate violations. According to DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, who released a statement on Saturday on behalf of Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, these actions align with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and the Command's dedication to bolstering security.

DSP Chinaka elaborated that the state Police Command is maintaining its comprehensive statewide enforcement drive. This operation specifically targets vehicles that are unregistered, or those with number plates that are obscured, defaced, altered, or illegally covered. During the recent review period, the Command successfully confiscated fifteen vehicles found in breach of vehicle registration and number plate statutes across Abia State. Fifteen suspects were taken into custody for offences linked to operating unregistered vehicles or those with manipulated or improperly displayed registration plates. Nine of these cases have since been transferred to the courts for prosecution, with other ongoing investigations expected to reach a diligent conclusion.

Commissioner of Police Isa extended accolades to the officers involved for their operational conduct and reaffirmed that the primary objective of this enforcement is to enhance public safety, bolster crime prevention efforts, and eliminate avenues for criminal elements to exploit vehicle identification vulnerabilities. He gave his word to the public that all individuals apprehended would be handled in accordance with constitutional requirements. The CP further stated that "The Command remains committed to ensuring transparency, professionalism and respect for the rule of law throughout the exercise," and urged citizens to report any instances of unprofessional conduct via the Command’s Complaint Response Unit. Finally, he cautioned residents of Abia to strictly adhere to vehicle registration legislation and ensure number plates are correctly displayed, emphasizing that these enforcement activities will continue statewide.
