Katsina Police Arrest Young Woman for Alleged Gruesome Murder of 97-Year-Old Grandmother

A disturbing incident has unfolded in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State, where a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, has been taken into custody by the police for her alleged role in the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan. According to the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident occurred on June 12, 2026, at about 7:00 pm, when a heated argument broke out between Aisha and her grandmother. The altercation reportedly turned violent, with Aisha striking her grandmother on the head with a wooden chair. The police were alerted to the situation by Aisha's father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, who reported the incident at the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station. Upon arriving at the scene, police operatives found the elderly woman lying unconscious in a pool of blood and immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, the victim was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor. During the investigation, Aisha was arrested and confessed to committing the crime. She is currently being held in custody and will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded. The Katsina State Police Command has assured that further developments on the case will be made public in due course.
