New Police Spokesperson Emerges: CSP Iniedu Takes Over From Placid

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has confirmed the appointment of CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu to serve as the new Force Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force. This development comes just three months after DCP Anthony Okon Placid had assumed the position.
According to a statement released on Friday by the outgoing FPRO, Placid, CSP Iniedu is described as a highly experienced officer, possessing vast expertise across areas such as public communication, operational policing, intelligence handling, ensuring institutional accountability, and general administration. Hailing from Etinan Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry, which he obtained from the University of Uyo.
The official statement further detailed his professional background, stating, “He has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication, and intelligence analysis.”
Before this new role, CSP Iniedu was the Head of the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. In this capacity, he oversaw the management of public complaints and spearheaded efforts designed to boost transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. His previous roles also include serving as the Public Relations Officer for the Police College of Information Technology located in Kobape, Ogun State, among numerous other operational and administrative postings nationwide.
The statement further elaborated on Iniedu's extensive career, noting his tenure in crucial roles such as Operations Officer at the Maisandari Division, Yobe State Command; Area Crime Officer for Umuahia Area Command in Abia State; Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters; Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa; and the Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he was responsible for overseeing the coordination and broadcast of crime and security intelligence across Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police conveyed his strong belief in Iniedu's capability to effectively manage the Force Public Relations Department. He highlighted that Iniedu's wealth of experience is expected to significantly improve the Force's strategic communication initiatives and bolster public interaction, thereby supporting ongoing police reforms. CSP Iniedu officially assumes duties from Placid, who had been appointed FPRO on March 8, 2026, taking over from Benjamin Hundeyin.
