Joint Task Force Nabs Suspected Terrorist Informants in Niger State

In a significant breakthrough, the Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield has successfully apprehended five individuals suspected of serving as informants to bandits and terrorists in Niger State. According to Captain Jamilu Muhammed Yahaya, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force, the arrests were made during separate operations conducted by the troops. The operations, which took place on June 6, 2026, led to the recovery of various items, including communication devices, cash, and other materials that linked the suspects to criminal activities. Preliminary investigations have revealed that three of the suspects were members of a bandit group operating in the Duru area, near the Kainji Lake National Park. Items found in their possession included two Tecno keypad phones, an MP3 device containing recorded propaganda messages, and a cash sum of N113,400. The messages claimed responsibility for the abduction of an individual in Kaduna State and the collection of a ransom of N60 million. Further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network. In a similar operation, troops of the 221 Battalion apprehended two suspected informants who were found to have been gathering information on the cantonment. A photograph of a beheaded individual, dated May 2, 2026, was discovered on one of the suspect's mobile phones, indicating possible links to terrorist activities. The Joint Task Force has reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal and terrorist support networks across the region, denying them the freedom to operate, and sustaining pressure on all threats to peace and security.
