Delta's Investment Boom Rooted in Enhanced Security, Says Governor Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State asserted on Wednesday that the state's appeal to investors stems directly from its enduring peace and stability. He emphasized that Delta is now entirely receptive and secure for commercial expansion, crediting his administration's intentional efforts to bolster the state's security framework for fostering prosperity among local populations and businesses alike. The Governor shared these remarks during the commissioning of a new Zenith Bank Plc branch in Osubi, located within the Okpe Local Government Area, viewing this event as a significant affirmation of Delta's economic prospects and its welcoming climate for investors.
In a statement released Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori highlighted that the inauguration of Zenith Bank's 19th outlet in Delta State signifies increasing trust in the state's economic landscape. He also noted it underscores the effectiveness of his government's initiatives aimed at cultivating a supportive atmosphere for commercial ventures.
He remarked, “This is more than just a banking facility coming on stream. It is a strong vote of confidence in the future of Delta State and in the opportunities that lie before us.”
The Governor extended his commendation to Adaora Umeoji, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, along with her management team, for honouring their commitment to open a branch in Osubi. He stated, “When this administration came on board, the bank promised to build a branch to service this community, and today it is evident. I am particularly impressed by the leadership of the bank for keeping to their promise.”
Oborevwori further pointed out, “It is worthy of note that this branch is the only bank in the whole of Okpe Local Government Area as it is today, and the significance of this bank to our people cannot be overemphasised because of the impact it will have on the economy of this local government. They have been agitating and crying for years, and I told them that by the grace of God we would have a bank here. Today, that promise has been fulfilled, and I know that more banks are coming by the grace of God.”
He continued, “Today, Delta State is enjoying an atmosphere of peace and security that allows our businesses to thrive and communities to prosper. This did not happen by chance. It is the result of deliberate efforts to strengthen security, promote stability and create an environment where people can live, work and invest with confidence.”
The Governor elaborated that the newly opened branch is expected to deliver excellent banking services to Osubi and its surrounding areas, foster entrepreneurship, bolster small and medium-sized enterprises, advance financial inclusion, and ultimately drive economic expansion.
He asserted, “When a leading financial institution such as Zenith Bank expands its presence in Delta State, it sends a powerful message that Delta is open for business and ready for greater investment. As a government, we remain committed to sustaining peace, improving infrastructure and providing the right environment for businesses to succeed. We will continue to work with private sector partners whose investments help drive growth, employment and improve the lives of our people”.
Earlier in the event, Adaora Umeoji, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, conveyed her gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his continuous support of private sector investments and for fostering a conducive operational climate for businesses across Delta State.
Umeoji stated, “Your presence here today speaks volumes about your commitment to supporting private sector investments and the continued development of Delta State. You have further demonstrated this commitment through your generous donation of the land on which this branch now proudly stands. The Governor actually donated this land free of charge. He demonstrated the large heart that Deltans are known for and his dedication to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Since you assumed office, the pace of infrastructure development and socio-economic transformation across Delta State has been truly remarkable. The impact of your M.O.R.E Agenda is visible in communities across the state, and today you are bringing more world-class banking services to the good people of Osubi, your own community.”
