Enori Says Sorry for AI-Generated Itel Power Tank Explosion Hoax

A Nigerian X user, identified as Enori, has publicly apologised after admitting to fabricating and circulating a false image that depicted an itel Power Tank in an exploded state using artificial intelligence (AI). Enori had shared this deceptive picture on the social media platform X earlier in the week. The post gained significant traction before she eventually deleted it and later confessed that the alleged incident never actually took place.

In an apology shared across her social media channels, Enori clarified that both the image and the claim about the explosion were entirely manufactured with AI assistance. She stated, “Hi, good morning, everybody. I made a post three days ago claiming that itel solar fan exploded and that it was overcharging, which I used AI to create. It didn’t happen, and I’m very, very sorry to the itel team and to the itel customers.”

Enori further extended her regrets to individuals who might have been affected by her false assertion or those who genuinely believed the image to be authentic. She expressed, “I’m very, very sorry. I know what it feels like to have a brand and for someone to just try to bring it down, and it was never my intention. I didn’t know it would go this far. I didn’t even think of it, and I’ll never do it again.” She unequivocally confirmed that the image was not a genuine photograph depicting any actual incident involving the itel product. Her message to potential consumers was, “To the incoming customers that may have felt deceived, or angry, or felt like or believed that it was real, it was not real. It was AI and I deleted it.”

Enori concluded her apology by expressing hope for closure on the matter and pledging not to repeat such an action. This development followed a stern warning issued by itel regarding the widespread circulation of the AI-fabricated image, which falsely purported to show an itel Power Tank that had exploded due to overcharging.

The company, itel, had previously denounced the image as a fabrication and cautioned that it intended to pursue legal remedies against any individuals deliberately employing AI-generated visuals or other deceptive content to disseminate misinformation about its product line. Through a disclaimer published on X on Wednesday, itel stated its firm stance against any attempts to leverage fabricated content to tarnish its brand reputation or deceive its clientele. The company emphasized that intentional efforts to misrepresent it through manufactured content, altered materials, or unfounded claims would lead to relevant legal proceedings. Itel further asserted its commitment to utilizing all available legal avenues to safeguard its brand identity, protect its customers, and maintain its corporate reputation whenever deemed necessary.

The itel Power Tank, which was the subject of the fake image, is a portable power station promoted by the company as a reliable backup power solution during periods of electricity disruption. Itel highlights that the product incorporates lithium iron phosphate batteries and is equipped with multiple safety mechanisms, such as battery management, protection against over-temperature, over-voltage, overload, and short-circuits. Crucially, there remains no verified record of any incident connecting an actual itel Power Tank to the explosion portrayed in the artificial intelligence-generated image.
