itel Vows Legal Action Against Spreaders of AI-Generated Fake Explosion Image

Technology giant, itel, has announced its intention to pursue legal remedies against individuals found using artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images and other doctored content to disseminate false information concerning its products. This warning was issued through an official disclaimer posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, following the widespread circulation of an AI-fabricated image purporting to show an itel Power Tank exploding.

The image, which gained traction on social media, was accompanied by a baseless claim suggesting the portable power station had detonated due to overcharging. However, itel has categorically stated that the content is a fabrication, cautioning that any deliberate attempts to misrepresent the company will be met with legal action.

In its official statement, the company affirmed, “At itel, we value our customers and appreciate every form of constructive criticism and feedback. Your opinions help us improve, and we remain committed to listening and addressing genuine concerns.” The firm continued, “However, we will not stand by while individuals use AI-generated images or other misleading content to spread false information, discredit our brand, or deliberately tarnish our reputation.”

itel further emphasized its commitment to safeguarding its brand and customers from unsubstantiated claims. “We take such actions seriously and wish to make it clear that any deliberate attempt to misrepresent itel through fabricated content, manipulated materials or malicious false claims shall attract appropriate legal action. We will pursue all appropriate legal remedies where necessary to protect our brand, our customers, and our reputation,” the company declared.

This controversy originated when an X user, identified as Enori, shared the AI-generated image along with the claim of an itel Power Tank explosion. The post quickly garnered significant attention before Enori subsequently removed it and issued an apology, admitting that both the image and the alleged scenario were entirely AI-generated. In the apology, Enori acknowledged the falsity of the claim and accepted responsibility for the misinformation and the confusion it caused.

Following this incident, official accounts linked to itel Energy had cautioned social media users against sharing the fabricated content, reiterating that the image did not depict an actual event involving an itel Power Tank. The Power Tank is a portable energy solution marketed by itel, designed to provide backup power during electricity disruptions. This product line incorporates lithium iron phosphate batteries and features multiple safety mechanisms, including battery management, over-temperature, over-voltage, overload, and short-circuit protection. To date, there have been no verified incidents connecting the product to the type of explosion depicted in the widely circulated AI image.
