In a bid to boost agricultural productivity and enhance the overall welfare of its residents, the Sokoto State Government has given its approval for the procurement of a wide range of agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, improved seeds, and agrochemicals, worth a staggering N1.652 billion. This significant investment is aimed at supporting farmers in the state during the upcoming 2026 wet season farming campaign. According to a statement released by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, the approval was made during a recent State Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber of Government House, Sokoto. The government's decision to purchase these essential agricultural inputs is designed to complement the efforts of the 23 local government councils in the state, which had earlier procured some agricultural inputs. By making these inputs available to farmers at the onset of the rainy season, the government hopes to enhance productivity and maximise yields during the current cropping season. In addition to its investments in agriculture, the state government has also approved the procurement of 1,200 Daylong motorcycles at a cost of N1.609 billion for distribution to civil servants under a loan scheme. This initiative is in fulfilment of a promise made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration. The government has also given its approval for several health-related projects, including the upgrade of the Gagi Primary Health Centre to a General Hospital at a cost of N592.116 million, the construction of a new Primary Health Care Centre in Majemar Korino, Tudun Wada area of Sokoto South Local Government Area at a cost of N143.458 million, and the construction of an administrative block at the Primary Health Care Centre on Kontagora Road, valued at N192.909 million. Furthermore, the state government has approved emergency concrete works and the rehabilitation of collapsed culverts and drainage canals behind the Rima Radio/Tudun Wada road network at a cost of N246.981 million. The Executive Council has also given its approval for the installation and maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting system at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at a cost of N113.438 million. These approvals demonstrate the state government's commitment to investing in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of improving the welfare of its residents and enhancing service delivery across the state.
