BREAKING: Suspected Terrorists Attack Emir’s Palace in Yashikira, Kwara State; Women and Children Reportedly Abducted

Yashikira, Baruten LGA, Kwara State — Fear and tension have gripped residents of Yashikira community in Kwara State following a violent overnight attack on the Emir’s palace by suspected terrorists.

According to early reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 25, 2026, when armed men invaded the palace of the Emir of Yashikira, unleashing chaos that left the community in shock.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers stormed the palace while residents were asleep, forcing their way into the premises and operating with little resistance. During the raid, several women and children were reportedly abducted, including members of the Emir’s household.

Properties within the palace complex were also destroyed, with some sections reportedly set ablaze during the attack. The exact number of victims has not yet been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Local sources describe the assault as highly coordinated and terrifying, adding that the attackers operated for several minutes before retreating into nearby forests.

Security agencies are yet to release a full official statement, but it is understood that efforts are ongoing to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims. The incident has further raised concerns about the worsening security situation in parts of Kwara State, especially communities close to forested border areas.

Residents are now calling on both state and federal authorities to urgently strengthen security presence in rural communities, saying repeated attacks are leaving them increasingly vulnerable and helpless.

As investigations continue, the Yashikira attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents across the country, deepening fears over insecurity and the safety of rural settlements in Nigeria.
