The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dispatched a 15-member delegation to Nigeria today, October 16th, to conduct a comprehensive final inspection of facilities. This visit is crucial in preparation for two major upcoming events: the 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
These significant continental football gatherings are slated for November and December respectively, with venues designated in Abuja and Lagos. The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to convene on November 21st at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. Following this, the prestigious 2026 CAF Awards ceremony will be hosted on December 7th at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.
Leading this important delegation is Christian Emeruwa, CAF’s Head of Safety and Security. The team is expected to arrive in Lagos by Friday afternoon. While in Lagos, the officials will undertake inspections of key locations including the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, the Eko Hotel & Suites, and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Furthermore, they are scheduled to engage in discussions with senior officials from the Lagos State Government.
Subsequently, the delegation will proceed to Abuja. Their agenda there involves assessing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Additionally, the CAF representatives plan to pay courtesy visits to the Chairman and Director-General of the National Sports Commission.
A six-member team from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), spearheaded by its Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, will accompany the CAF delegation throughout their inspection tour, providing local support and coordination.
