Chelsea's long-serving captain, Reece James, is expected to be out of action for three months following a recent knee surgery. The 26-year-old defender sustained the injury during a training session last weekend, just before Chelsea's impressive 5-1 victory against Bournemouth. After careful consideration, the decision was made for him to undergo surgery.

Currently, James is engaged in a rigorous rehabilitation program with Chelsea's dedicated medical team. While an exact return date has not been specified, the three-month recovery period indicates a significant time away from the pitch for the crucial player.

This injury comes at a challenging time for Chelsea, who face a demanding schedule. Their upcoming Premier League fixtures include an away trip to Everton, followed by home clashes against London rivals Tottenham and Manchester United. Adding to this difficult run, a Carabao Cup encounter away at Liverpool is scheduled between the two home league matches.

James has unfortunately been plagued by numerous injuries over the past few seasons, which have led to his absence from several international tournaments with England since the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar. Despite this history, his fitness saw a marked improvement last season, enabling him to play a vital role in England's World Cup campaign where they reached the semi-finals and secured a bronze medal. More recently, James was among the players who withdrew from national team duty during the most recent international break. England's next international fixture is set for early November, when they are scheduled to take on Croatia at Wembley Stadium.
