Liverpool Takes Drastic Measures Against Ticket Touting, Bans Over 400 Fans

In a bid to curb the menace of ticket touting, Liverpool Football Club has taken a significant step by imposing lifetime bans on over 400 individuals found guilty of ticketing offences. This move is part of a collaborative effort with Merseyside Police to clamp down on the illicit sale of tickets, which has been a persistent problem for the club. The operation, which resulted in the seizure of assets worth over £1.2 million, is a testament to the club's commitment to protecting its genuine supporters. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield of Merseyside Police praised the partnership between the police and the club, stating, 'This is a fantastic example of partnership working between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the general public.' He emphasized that authorities will continue to take action against touts who exploit supporters attempting to purchase tickets to watch their team. The club's actions are part of a broader campaign against ticket fraud, which has seen the closure of 145,000 ticket accounts over a two-year period. During the 2025-26 season, Liverpool analyzed nearly 700,000 ticket registrations, blocking or cancelling 67,663 suspected fake accounts, while a further 121,379 accounts remained under investigation. The club also cancelled 3,847 tickets after identifying suspicious purchasing activity and returned them to general admission sales to increase availability for genuine fans. Additionally, Liverpool has increased matchday enforcement measures, carrying out targeted checks at Anfield and away fixtures to prevent access by individuals linked to suspicious ticket activity. On average, 300 interventions were carried out at each home match, with similar operations conducted during Premier League and European away games.
