Reports have emerged that Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has engaged in preliminary discussions regarding the potential acquisition of a stake in Liverpool Football Club. These talks, as disclosed by Sky Sports, involve Bezos and a group of investors led by Amit Bhatia, a British-Indian businessman. Bhatia, who previously held a stake in Queens Park Rangers, is also the son-in-law of prominent steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. The consortium he leads is currently exploring the possibility of purchasing a minority stake in the Premier League club. The discussions are part of a broader effort by the consortium to assemble a deal with Fenway Sports Group, the current owners of Liverpool. Notably, in 2023, Fenway Sports Group sold a four per cent stake in the club to Dynasty Equity, a US-based private equity firm, for a sum of £164 million. While Bezos has not yet made a decision on proceeding with the investment, his interest underscores the appeal of Premier League clubs to high-net-worth individuals and investors. The potential investment would mark a significant development in the ownership structure of Liverpool FC, should it materialize.
