Argentina Gets National Holiday Despite World Cup Loss

In a surprising move, President Javier Milei of Argentina has declared a national holiday to commemorate the country's World Cup campaign, despite the team's defeat in the final. This announcement was made by Milei on the social media platform X, where he stated, 'WORLD CUP CELEBRATIONS. In light of the concerns regarding the celebrations to mark the Argentine national team's achievement, I would like to inform the public that, depending on the decision reached by the players and the coaching staff regarding the date of the celebrations, that day will be declared a national holiday.' The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed that some members of the team will return to Buenos Aires on Monday, while others will head to different destinations to rejoin their clubs or take a break. As stated by the AFA, 'Following the final, some of the squad's players will travel directly from the United States to various destinations to rejoin their clubs or begin their break.' Meanwhile, a part of the delegation, including players, coaching staff, and other staff members, will arrive in Argentina on Monday at around 5 p.m. Argentina's quest to become the first back-to-back World Cup winners since Brazil achieved this feat in 1958 and 1962 was thwarted when substitute Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute, securing the European champions' second World Cup title.
