Trump Set to Present Trophy at World Cup Final in New Jersey

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is scheduled to attend the highly anticipated World Cup final match between Argentina and Spain. This will be his first appearance at any of the 102 World Cup matches that have taken place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. According to the White House, Trump will be presenting the trophy to the winning team alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino. In a statement, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed the president's enthusiasm for the event, saying, 'We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending.' This gesture is seen as a fitting conclusion to a tournament that has showcased America's capabilities in hosting major international events. Earlier in the week, Infantino had mentioned that plans were in place for Trump to attend the final and present the trophy, stating, 'Hopefully we’ll present the trophy together in the final. That’s always been the plan, and that’s how it’s always been done in the past—the president of the country where the final is held presents the trophy together with the FIFA president.' Trump is also expected to attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York City. When asked about Trump's absence from the previous matches, Infantino suggested that the president's busy schedule was a likely reason, adding, 'I suppose he still has a few other things to do ... And when he’s at the stadium, people will ask, ‘What’s he doing at the stadium when there’s so much going on in the world?’ I’m always in touch with him and his government, which is doing a great job with the World Cup.'
