Pulisic Declares Readiness for USMNT World Cup Clash Despite Injury

Starting in Irvine, California, Christian Pulisic, the U.S. men's national team star, welcomed journalists with a smile, playfully asking, "Can I guess the first question?" He was clearly anticipating inquiries about his recent challenges. Indeed, the initial question posed to him was precisely what he'd prepared for: "How are you feeling?" Pulisic confirmed he was in good physical condition and, even better, in excellent mental spirits.
Despite suffering an injury that restricted his play in the opening World Cup match and sidelined him completely from the second, Pulisic maintained a cheerful demeanor. The past week and a half, which could easily have led to frustration, instead found him remarkably at peace. This serenity is perhaps due to the USMNT's impressive progress; they've already secured a spot in the knockout stage with victories against Paraguay and Australia. This was achieved even with Pulisic only playing 45 minutes, during which he showcased dazzling form before a reaggravated calf injury cut his time short.
Following the triumph over Australia, a memorable scene unfolded: Pulisic, still in his warm-up gear, joyfully joined the Seattle crowd in a rendition of "Country Roads," beaming from ear to ear. Any potential disappointment about not being on the pitch was overshadowed by pure happiness in that moment. He shared, "World Cups are so special. Getting two wins in the first two games, sending yourself to the next round - it was just a fun moment with the team. They play a song that we all know, and it's just like...I can't explain it. It just gives you chills. It's so much fun just to be here, be a part of this team, whether I'm playing or not. Honestly, it's just like it's the best experience that you can ever live, so I'm just loving it."
While he cherishes the experience, Pulisic admits he'd prefer to be playing more. There's a possibility he might feature in Thursday's upcoming encounter against Turkey. The decision on whether to risk him rests solely with USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino. However, Pulisic has officially stated his readiness to contribute if called upon. "I'm obviously excited," he affirmed. "Playing in the World Cup, missing the last game, of course, I want to be a part of the group. I want to get on the field and try to help the team in whatever way I can." He noted that he felt similarly prepared for the Australia game, but circumstances prevented his participation at the time.
