The Defence Headquarters has revealed that its official X account, formerly known as Twitter, has been compromised due to an unauthorised access attempt. This incident is being handled as a cybersecurity issue, and the necessary technical measures have been put in place to secure the account and prevent any further unauthorised access. According to a statement issued on Saturday by Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, the Defence Headquarters is working to fully regain control of the account. The statement partly read, 'The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform members of the public, the media, and all stakeholders that it has detected an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account.' The DHQ has assured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to restore the account to its full functionality and has advised the public to disregard any suspicious or misleading content that may be posted on the account during this period. Major General Uba stated, 'The Defence Headquarters assures the public that efforts are ongoing to fully restore control of the official account. Consequently, members of the public are advised to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account during this period.' The Defence Headquarters has reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of information security and ensuring that the public receives accurate, timely, and credible information about the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. To avoid any disruption in communication, the DHQ has urged the public to rely on its verified accounts on other platforms, including Facebook, where it can be found under the name 'Defence Headquarters Nigeria', Instagram at @defenceheadquarters, and its WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria. The DHQ appreciates the understanding and vigilance of the public and will provide further updates as necessary.
