Details emerge: Body of 52-Year-Old Recovered from Kwara Domestic Well by Fire Service

The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, that it successfully retrieved the body of a 52-year-old man from a domestic well in Ilorin. The tragic incident occurred near the Lamp Bearers Islamic School, situated off Asa-Dam Road in the state capital.

The Fire Service received a distress call concerning the incident at precisely 08:42 AM. Upon their arrival at the scene, firefighters immediately initiated a recovery operation. The deceased was identified as Mr. Alaba Ayeni, aged 52.

Investigations conducted during the operation revealed that children in the vicinity were the first to discover the man inside the well. They promptly alerted community elders, who then raised the alarm. The location of the well was reportedly close to Mr. Ayeni's residence.

Following the successful recovery, the body was officially handed over to DPO Bolaji of the Budo-Nuhu Police Station, Nigeria Police Force, for further necessary protocols and investigation.

In response to the unfortunate event, the Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed deep concern. He used the opportunity to appeal to residents across the state to ensure all domestic wells and other open water sources within residential areas are securely covered to prevent similar accidents. Furthermore, he advised parents, guardians, and community leaders to diligently supervise children, preventing them from wandering unsupervised near wells, drainage channels, and other potentially dangerous locations.

The Kwara State Fire Service extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and community affected by this sad incident, reiterating its commitment to swift emergency response and the protection of lives and property throughout Kwara State.
