Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has sanctioned an additional N500 million to bolster the state's housing and vehicle loan programmes for its public servants. The governor also greenlighted an increase in the maximum loan amounts and daily allowances for officials on approved assignments both within Nigeria and internationally.

This development was announced on Monday by the state's Head of Service, Segun Odusanya, during a press briefing held in Akure. The briefing was part of activities leading up to the annual Civil Service Week celebration. Odusanya stated that these approvals are designed to enhance the welfare and boost the productivity of workers, underscoring the administration's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of both current and retired public servants.

Odusanya elaborated, stating, "The government has approved an additional seed fund of N500 million for the housing and motor vehicle loan schemes for public servants. It has also approved upward reviews of the loan ceilings and duty tour allowance payable to officers undertaking approved official assignments within and outside the state, including assignments outside the country." He further explained that "These measures are intended to improve workers’ welfare and respond to prevailing economic realities."

He highlighted the government's ongoing dedication to career advancement, evidenced by consistent promotion exercises. According to Odusanya, all officers eligible for promotion in the 2026 cycle have already received their promotion letters, with preparations for the 2027 exercise already in motion. These promotions encompass staff in the mainstream civil service, primary and secondary education sectors, and relevant government parastatals.

Odusanya also affirmed the government's consistent fulfillment of its financial responsibilities, including timely payment of salaries, allowances, and leave bonuses. He emphasized, "The government has continued to discharge its obligations regarding the payment of workers’ salaries and applicable allowances, including leave bonuses. This remains an important component of its commitment to workers’ welfare and financial stability."

Regarding pensioners, the Head of Service noted the government's continuous efforts to progressively clear the inherited gratuity arrears owed to both state and local government retirees. Additionally, he mentioned the harmonization of pensions for former heads of service and permanent secretaries. "This initiative is an important step towards addressing pension-related concerns and recognising the contributions of these senior officers who devoted their productive years to the service of Ondo State," Odusanya said, adding that "The administration’s attention to pension and gratuity obligations reflects the importance of honouring the service of retired public servants and promoting their financial well-being."

In conclusion, Odusanya urged public servants to reciprocate the government's welfare initiatives with heightened dedication, discipline, integrity, and accountability, stressing that improved welfare should translate into enhanced service delivery.

Speaking on the 2026 Public Service Week celebration, themed "Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance," Odusanya outlined that the six-day event, which began with the press briefing, aims to foster professionalism, accountability, institutional solidarity, and better service delivery. The programme includes a health walk, a novelty football match, a public service lecture, a panel discussion, and both Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services.
