Wike Reveals Children Backed Peter Obi in 2023 Over Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has openly shared that his children threw their support behind Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, during the 2023 general elections. This revelation came to light on Monday during an interview Mr. Wike granted to TVC News.

The former Governor of Rivers State attributed his children's political preference for Obi to the widespread debate surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the lead-up to the 2023 polls. He, however, asserted that the political landscape has since shifted, claiming that President Bola Tinubu's administration has effectively addressed the initial apprehensions associated with the same-faith ticket.

"In 2023, there was a problem with the Muslim-Muslim ticket. There was this campaign about Christianity," Wike explained. "All my children supported Peter Obi. But now, they are saying that they never knew this man, Peter Obi, was like this."

He further elaborated, stating, "There are a lot of people who were carried away, but that is no longer there now. Tinubu has been able to kill the Muslim-Muslim ticket problem." Wike concluded his remarks by confidently stating that Obi, who is now the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stands no chance of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election.
