SDP’s Adebayo Pledges Poverty, Insecurity Eradication in Four Years with New Plan

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has committed that his party will eradicate poverty and address the nation's insecurity challenges within a four-year tenure if elected in the 2027 presidential election. Adebayo, who recently launched his presidential strategy document titled "Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity" in Abuja on Tuesday, emphasized during an ARISE NEWS interview that this policy framework offers a comprehensive and constitutionally aligned alternative to resolve Nigeria's current economic and security predicaments. He reiterated the SDP's pledge to eliminate poverty and combat insecurity within four years if they secure the presidency in 2027.

"Firstly, the most crucial aspect of this blueprint is its adherence to the Constitution," Adebayo stated. "Section 224 of the Constitution mandates that every political party's manifesto or policy must comply. Only the SDP meets this requirement. So, we have followed the Constitution." He further added, "By the conclusion of our four-year term, we will have eliminated poverty. I am not suggesting every Nigerian will become a billionaire, but we will eradicate poverty and effectively deal with insecurity."

Adebayo explained that the SDP's methodology is rooted in intellectual rigor and a distinct national philosophy, rather than merely seeking power. He mentioned that 16 additional policy books are forthcoming, designed to provide in-depth solutions to Nigeria's multifaceted issues. He argued that the blueprint is crafted to transcend political affiliations, asserting that any administration willing to grasp and implement its proposals could achieve significant progress for the country.

"Currently, politicians are operating blindly, chasing power without clear vision," Adebayo observed. "Therefore, our decision was to secure a victory even before the election: we will compel Nigerians to think. We will solve the problems. This is merely the beginning. Regardless of the election's outcome, we are preparing 16 more policy books." He continued, "So, you follow these policies. What we aim to do in the SDP is leverage what we possess that others lack: intellect and philosophy. Thus, we will first resolve the problems. That's why I declared at the launch that even if the APC, despite their apparent confusion, could muster the intelligence to read and comprehend this and not focus on how solutions translate into personal gain, they could achieve some success—perhaps relative success, though not as substantial as ours. A robust national philosophy for development should be implementable even by individuals other than its originators. This is the foundation we are establishing."

Highlighting the necessity of addressing the underlying causes of poverty instead of offering temporary relief, Adebayo affirmed that the SDP would prioritize education, agricultural investment, healthcare, housing, and employment as fundamental drivers for sustainable livelihoods. He noted that the party also intends to deploy extensive infrastructure and social-service investments to generate employment and reduce the unemployment rate to between two and three percent.

"The opportunity we offer is this: when you are young in Nigeria, we will ensure you are educated. Education is the fastest route out of the station of poverty. We possess the resources to enroll you in school. That is precisely the first action we will take: place every school-aged individual in school. We will eliminate that in a matter of three months," Adebayo declared. "Secondly, we will guarantee the provision of agricultural supplies. We can accomplish this; it's not complex. If just two or three states—Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Benue—can feed the rest of Nigeria, then food abundance is achievable."

He continued, "The next step is healthcare. You must be able to establish healthcare facilities widely. These are the factors that contribute to poverty. It's not the money in your bank account. I'm not claiming no one will ever be broke again; I am merely stating no one will be poor. You are permitted to be broke without being poor, meaning you can afford food, you're not spending more than 8% or 9% of your income on housing, and you incur no medical costs because that is your right."

"Furthermore, we will allocate government funds in a manner that generates employment. The sole success metric for monetary and fiscal policy is the creation of full employment. How do you reduce unemployment to 2% or 3%? You achieve this through massive infrastructure development, agricultural investment, and social services. All these individuals you will educate will require teachers, nurses, and other professionals."

Regarding job creation, Adebayo stated that the SDP would implement a mixed-economy model, integrating both public and private sector employment. He argued that the government has a crucial role in making strategic investments across sectors such as agriculture, energy, aviation, and manufacturing. He added that recovering funds lost to alleged corruption and crude oil theft would significantly enhance the government's capacity to finance development projects and create jobs without imposing additional burdens on citizens. "Our Constitution stipulates a mixed economy, and I am not hesitant about government-led job creation."
