Osun Governor Adeleke Humbles Himself Before Elder Sibling After Poll Victory

A captivating video has become a sensation across social media platforms, showing Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, demonstrating profound respect by prostrating before his older brother, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke. The gesture, a traditional Yoruba sign of reverence, was reportedly an expression of gratitude for Dr. Adeleke's unwavering support during the recently concluded governorship election. Media mogul, Dele Momodu, disseminated the footage via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, August 20, 2026.
In the viral clip, Governor Adeleke is seen fully engaging in the Yoruba custom of "dobale" (prostration) before his senior brother, who is famously known as the father of Afrobeats superstar, Davido. In response, the elder Adeleke offered prayers for the governor and his administration, while other family members and close associates observed the emotional moment.
This act of humility comes just days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Adeleke the victor of the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election. He secured a significant 511,067 votes, surpassing his closest competitor, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes.
The video has since sparked widespread discussion on X, with numerous users commending the governor's humble demeanor and the Adeleke family's strong adherence to cultural values. One X user, Theo Ayodeji, remarked, "One thing I love about Yoruba culture is how strongly we value respect for elders. You can hold the highest office and still dobale before an elder. Is this tradition still as strong among younger Yorubas today? You probably know the answer." Another user, Nazir A. Usman, commented, "Respect for elders and constituted authority is one thing you can’t take away from Yoruba people." Cosmas Nnamdi Nweke also expressed admiration, stating, "I love this man. I also enjoy the kind of family relationship and love that is obvious in the Adeleke family." Ayodeji further added, "Omoluabi trait. Thank you Mr Governor for not allowing the transience of power to cloud your sense of gratitude, both to the Almighty God and man."
