As the Islamic community marked the beginning of the new lunar year, Hijrah 1448/2026, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emphasized the importance of continued religious harmony in the state. In a statement released on X, Makinde reflected on his administration's efforts to foster unity among people of different faiths in Oyo State. According to him, his government has successfully resisted attempts to divide the state along religious lines, thanks to the support of Muslims, Christians, traditional worshippers, and individuals who do not subscribe to any particular faith. Makinde expressed his gratitude for this collective support, which has helped maintain peace and unity in the state. On the occasion of Hijrah 1448/2026, the governor met with Muslim faithful, describing the celebration as his final Hijrah observance in office. As his tenure is set to end in 2027, Makinde wished the residents of Oyo State a peaceful and prosperous Islamic year, praying that the incoming administration would prioritize the welfare of the people and maintain the peace. Hijrah commemorates Prophet Muhammad's migration from Makkah to Madinah and marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar. Makinde's remarks highlighted the significance of interfaith harmony and cooperation in promoting a stable and prosperous society.
