A group of 100 prominent Nigerians, known as the G-100, has called on key opposition figures to put aside their personal ambitions and work together to present a united front in the 2027 presidential election. In a seven-page open letter, the group argued that a fragmented opposition is allowing the ruling All Progressives Congress to consolidate power and erode Nigeria's democratic institutions. The letter, signed by notable figures such as Salihu Lukman, Nnenna Ukeje, and Simon Achuba, emphasized the need for a credible and united alternative to the current administration. The G-100 warned that the country's problems go beyond economic hardship and that the deeper crisis lies in a political system that prioritizes loyalty over competence and patronage over public service. The group plans to convene a National Council of Opposition Leaders, where leading opposition politicians will be expected to negotiate a common strategy and commit to producing a single presidential candidate. The G-100 stressed that democracy cannot survive without a credible opposition and that opposition leaders who insist on pursuing individual ambitions risk guaranteeing another victory for the ruling party.
