Heirs Energies Ordered to Appear Before Rivers Assembly Over Omuohia Petition

The Rivers State Legislature has issued a directive for the leadership of Heirs Energies Limited to present itself before its members. This development follows a formal complaint lodged by the Omuohia Community, situated in Igwuruta Town within the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state. The legislative body has mandated the company's management to appear for questioning on Monday, July 20, 2026, at precisely 10:00 a.m., at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, which is currently serving as the temporary venue for plenary sessions.
A letter from the lawmakers, dated July 7, 2026, and personally signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi, was addressed to the company's Managing Director. Our correspondent had the opportunity to review a copy of this correspondence on Tuesday. The Assembly, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, indicated that this summons became essential due to Heirs Energies Limited's consistent disregard for previous invitations from its Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions.
This resolution was reached by the House after carefully reviewing the committee's findings during the Fourth Legislative Sitting of the Fourth Session of the 10th Assembly. According to the resolution, the lawmakers collectively decided to “register its displeasure, and condemn, in strong terms, the wilful refusal of Heirs Energies Limited to appear before the Committee despite several invitations to this effect.”
Furthermore, the legislative body issued a stern caution, stating that non-compliance with the summons could result in the invocation of the Assembly's constitutional authority. The House explicitly stated it “would not hesitate to invoke its powers, in line with Section 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), if you fail to appear accordingly.”
The primary subject of the petition before the Assembly is the dispute between the Omuohia Community in Igwuruta Town and Heirs Energies Limited. The official letter urged the company to prioritize this invitation with “utmost priority.”
A portion of the letter reads: “At the Fourth Legislative Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Tenth Assembly, the House considered the report of the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions on the petition by Omuohia Community in Igwuruta Town against Heirs Energies Limited and resolved to: ‘Register its displeasure and condemn, in strong terms, the wilful refusal of Heirs Energies Limited to appear before the Committee despite several invitations to this effect; ‘Invite you to appear before the House with your management team on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters; ‘And warn that the House would not hesitate to invoke its powers, in consonance with Section 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), if you fail to appear accordingly. Please treat this as a matter of utmost priority.’”
