Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has conveyed his profound grief following the passing of his Special Adviser on Higher Education, Yakubu Ibrahim, and the tragic demise of two children belonging to former Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, in a recent road accident. The Governor's sentiments were released in a statement on Sunday, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado. Mohammed extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, representing his own family, the state government, and the citizens of Bauchi State.
The statement disclosed that Yakubu Ibrahim, an esteemed elder statesman, educationist, and former Commissioner for Religious Affairs, succumbed to a prolonged illness in Abuja. Governor Mohammed lauded the late Ibrahim as an exceptional public servant, whose life exemplified integrity, humility, selfless dedication, and an unwavering commitment to advancing education across Bauchi State.
In the official communication, it was stated: “Until his death, Yakubu Ibrahim served diligently as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, where he brought his vast experience, wisdom and unwavering commitment to the development of the education sector in Bauchi State.” Governor Bala Mohammed further characterized the late adviser as “a distinguished public servant whose life was defined by integrity, humility, selfless service and an unrelenting passion for the advancement of education.” The Governor acknowledged Ibrahim's invaluable contributions to the growth and transformation of education throughout both the former Bauchi State and the contemporary Bauchi State, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations. Mohammed also reflected on Ibrahim's impactful tenure as Commissioner for Religious Affairs and later as Special Adviser on Higher Education, commending his judicious advice, extensive knowledge, and dedication to public service, which significantly enriched governmental policies and programs.
“Yakubu Ibrahim was a committed patriot, a respected educationist, a mentor to many and a bridge-builder whose contributions to the educational and moral development of our society will remain indelible,” the governor affirmed. He added, “His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Government and people of Bauchi State and the nation at large.”
Furthermore, Governor Mohammed expressed deep sympathy to Senator Baba Tela over the devastating loss of his children, Mustapha and Ummi. They tragically died in a horrific motor accident on Saturday along the Bauchi–Azare Road while returning from Azare. Gidado relayed that the Governor received the news with immense shock and sorrow, describing the incident as a sorrowful tragedy that has cast a pall of grief over the state.
The statement further read: “The Governor said the loss of two young lives in such a tragic circumstance is not only a devastating blow to Senator Baba Tela and his immediate family but also a painful loss to the entire people of Bauchi State.” Governor Mohammed offered prayers for the eternal rest of the departed souls, beseeching Almighty Allah to grant them Aljannatul Firdaus and bestow upon their families the fortitude to endure this irreparable loss. He encouraged the bereaved family to find solace in divine will, reassuring Senator Tela of the Bauchi State government's and its people's unwavering support, prayers, and solidarity during this trying period.
