Lagos State Concludes Rigorous Assessment for Auditor-General Position

The Lagos State Civil Service Commission has successfully completed its thorough executive assessment and screening exercise for individuals seeking to be appointed as the state's Auditor-General. This development was announced by the government on Wednesday via its official Facebook page.
The commission clarified that this extensive evaluation was initiated following the redeployment of the immediate past Auditor-General. It also strictly adheres to the provisions outlined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Lagos State Audit Law.
In a formal statement regarding the exercise, the commission explained that all shortlisted candidates underwent a demanding selection process. The primary goal was to identify the most competent and qualified officer for this crucial role. The commission further emphasized that the entire process was meticulously designed to uphold the principles of transparency, merit, and professionalism in the appointment of officers to significant roles within the Lagos State Public Service.
To ensure a robust evaluation, the commission collaborated with Messrs Intermarc Consulting to develop and administer a comprehensive competency-based assessment framework. The distinguished assessment panel was comprised of the Head of Service, various members of the Civil Service Commission, permanent secretaries from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, representatives from the commission, and highly experienced retired public servants.
Candidates were evaluated through a multi-faceted approach, which included detailed personnel record reviews, a Computer-Based Test (CBT), written assessments, oral presentations, in-depth case study analyses, group discussions, and a final executive panel interview. The commission stated that the evaluation criteria focused on technical competence, leadership ability, strategic thinking, integrity, decision-making skills, and extensive professional experience.
Commenting on the exercise, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, the Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, reaffirmed the commission's unwavering dedication to ensuring that only qualified and ethical professionals are considered for leadership roles within the state’s public service. Dapo-Thomas added that this rigorous process is a clear reflection of the commission’s commitment to strengthening accountability and fostering excellence in governance.
“The commission is committed to ensuring that only competent, ethical and qualified professionals are considered for critical leadership positions within the Lagos State Public Service,” she stated.
The commission concluded by noting that the results of this comprehensive assessment will form the basis of its recommendation to the governor for the nomination of a suitable candidate to the Office of the State Auditor-General, in full compliance with existing legal provisions.
