The Commissioner of Police for Imo State Command, Audu Garba Bosso, has given his word that the command is fully prepared to guarantee comprehensive security during upcoming elections, including the protection of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials. This assurance came during a meeting on Wednesday at the Command headquarters in Owerri, where CP Bosso hosted Mr. Chukwuemeka Christopher, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, along with his management team.

CP Bosso affirmed the command's commitment to safeguarding INEC staff, facilities, and all electoral processes throughout the election period. He further promised to implement continuous patrols and other proactive strategies to secure the entire electoral exercise. Emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility, the Police Commissioner urged residents to provide timely and reliable information to security agencies. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s well-known mantra, “see something, say something,” calling on the people of Imo State to support efforts aimed at ensuring peaceful, secure, and credible elections in the state.

"Our readiness to provide adequate security for INEC personnel, facilities, and all electoral activities across Imo State is unwavering," CP Bosso stated. "We will ensure a conducive environment for free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections."

Earlier in the meeting, the recently appointed Imo REC, Mr. Chukwuemeka Christopher, expressed his appreciation for the Imo State Police Command's support during previous electoral undertakings. He acknowledged the strong partnership that exists between INEC and the Police. Christopher then requested sustained collaboration and called for reinforced security coverage around INEC offices and infrastructure throughout the state.

Traditionally, INEC and security agencies maintain a close working relationship during elections to protect electoral staff, materials, and voters. The state of Imo has experienced significant security challenges in recent years, making the synergy between the electoral body and security forces absolutely vital for conducting peaceful and credible polls.
