Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has highlighted the profound significance of fatherhood, describing it as the very foundation of both families and society, built on selfless love and immense sacrifices. In his message delivered on Sunday to mark the 2026 Father’s Day celebration, Governor Fubara lauded fathers as the essential anchors that bind households together, thereby bolstering communities across Rivers State and the entire nation.

He observed that despite the severe economic and social obstacles facing Nigeria, fathers in all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State consistently strive to provide for their families. This commendation was released in a statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made accessible to journalists.

Governor Fubara declared, “Father’s Day is a special occasion set aside to honour the quiet love and selfless sacrifices that fathers make across generations and throughout the world. A father’s love is quiet strength. It is the man who leaves home before dawn and returns after dusk so his children can eat and go to school. It is the man who denies himself so his family can have. It is the firm hand that corrects and the open arms that forgive. That love is the invisible thread that holds our homes together, and that sacrifice is the foundation of our society.”

The governor further shared his observations, stating, “I have seen fathers labour under the sun, paddle through floods and endure hardship, all so that the next generation will have a better chance than they did. That is heroism without medals.”

He underscored the critical role of fathers, asserting that the stability of families rests on fathers, and in turn, stable families lead to resilient communities, ultimately strengthening Rivers State. Fubara emphasized that responsible fatherhood fosters peaceful homes, while responsible children contribute to harmonious neighbourhoods and a prosperous state. He pledged that his administration would continue to draw inspiration from the fortitude and dedication of fathers in its efforts to build a Rivers State worthy of their commitment and hard work.

Governor Fubara concluded by offering prayers for all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, guardians, and mentors, wishing them good health, enduring strength, and long lives to enjoy the fruits of their hard labour. Father’s Day, observed on the third Sunday of June in Nigeria and many parts of the world, serves to acknowledge the invaluable contributions fathers make to their families and society.
