Nigerian Women liken Marriage to 'Warfare' in Personal Testimonies

A growing number of women, both those who have exited their marital unions and some currently wedded, are increasingly describing marriage as a battlefield, likening themselves to 'soldiers' bearing the scars of combat.
This striking perspective gained traction after one woman, who tied the knot in 2013 and divorced in 2021, initiated an online discussion by detailing her personal journey. She posted, "Married 2013 - Returned 2021. My return soldiers when did you return from war?"
Reflecting on the ensuing reactions, she remarked that the comments were amusing, adding, "Well better a returned alive but wounded soldier than returned in a coffin soldier. God loves D!vorced people."
Subsequently, a wave of divorced women flooded the comments section, each recounting their experiences. Many drew parallels between their past marriages and a perilous war zone, viewing themselves as fortunate survivors who emerged alive, albeit deeply scarred from the ordeal. The conversation also saw contributions from individuals who had navigated divorce more than once, sharing their unique perspectives. Furthermore, several women currently in marriages, grappling with desires to leave but unsure of how to proceed, also voiced their thoughts.
