The Federal Capital Territory Administration has officially launched its 2025 promotion exercise, targeting more than 13,000 civil servants across both the FCTA and the Federal Capital Development Authority. Emeka Ezeh, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, confirmed the commencement of the exercise in a statement released on Wednesday, noting that it received approval from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to Ezeh, the promotion tests began on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and are scheduled to run for a period of ten days. This extensive exercise will assess over 13,000 civil servants spanning 150 different cadres and grade levels. He further elaborated that this initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s 'Renewed Hope Agenda,' designed to ensure that eligible officers within the civil service are able to advance in their careers.

Ezeh stated, “As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President, the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion exercise for over 13,000 FCT civil servants for the year 2025. The exercise is expected to commence on July 1, 2026, for a period of 10 days.”

The commission chairman also revealed that Minister Wike has instructed the commission to conduct the 2026 promotion exercise before the close of the current year. This directive aims to guarantee that all qualifying officers are given the chance to progress within the service. “The Minister further directed the commission to ensure that the 2026 promotion exercise is also conducted before the end of the year to ensure all eligible officers are given the opportunity to grow in the service,” Ezeh added. He also charged the commission to collaborate with all relevant FCTA agencies to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly, preventing any issues that arose during previous promotion rounds.

Assuring participants, Ezeh affirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place for a hitch-free process and encouraged candidates to exercise patience throughout. He also extended his best wishes to all those participating in the computer-based test promotion. The commission proudly highlighted its achievement in 2024, becoming the first civil service commission in Nigeria to conduct promotion examinations using Computer-Based Testing, a feat accomplished merely six months after its inauguration in March of that year.
