Former President Obasanjo and AU Commission Chair Discuss African Peace Initiatives

Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria's former President, held discussions on Friday with Mahmoud Youssouf, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Their meeting centered on significant regional happenings and various matters crucial to the entire African continent.
The African Union released a statement confirming that the agenda for the discussions also encompassed promoting peace, fostering dialogue, and ensuring stability throughout Africa. During the meeting, Mr. Youssouf praised General Obasanjo's consistent involvement in continental matters and acknowledged his dedicated work towards establishing peace and stability across the African landscape.
Specifically, the statement quoted the Chairperson as expressing appreciation for “President Obasanjo’s continued engagement in support of peace, dialogue and stability across the continent.”
Presently, the former Nigerian leader, Obasanjo, serves as a High Representative for the African Union. His initial appointment to this pivotal role occurred in August 2021, and he subsequently received a reappointment to persist in his critical peace-building and mediation endeavors across the region. Furthermore, the AU's communication indicated that both prominent figures “exchanged views on key regional developments and other issues of continental interest” during their interaction.
