The Russian government has expressed strong disapproval of the United States' stance on the Ukrainian military's drone strikes against Russian infrastructure, which the US believes could hasten the end of the ongoing conflict. Ukraine has been intensifying its retaliatory campaign, utilizing long-range unmanned aerial vehicles to target Russian oil infrastructure, refineries, and military sites. According to Ukrainian authorities, these operations are a proportionate response to Russia's persistent missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian civilian centers and electrical grids. The strategic significance of these strikes was highlighted during a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where President Trump seemed to endorse the pressure strategy, stating, 'It's an escalation, but it's also an escalation that can help lead to an end.' US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expressed support for the operations, anticipating that the structural damage inflicted on Russia's energy infrastructure would create necessary leverage to initiate serious diplomatic negotiations to end the war. However, the Kremlin has rejected the US assessment, arguing that increased military and economic pressure will not compel the Russian leadership to make diplomatic concessions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, 'We see certain misconceptions within the White House administration — that by escalating military pressure it can help move to a peace settlement. That is a mistaken view.' Peskov warned that the cross-border strikes would likely prolong the campaign rather than shorten it, and the Russian military would respond by 'creating a larger security zone,' a phrase often used by Moscow to signal its intent to capture and occupy additional territory in eastern Ukraine. The drone campaign has caused significant disruption, with hits on major oil depots and processing plants triggering localized supply shocks within Russia. Despite being a leading crude exporter, Moscow has been forced to enact temporary refined product export bans, with over 90 percent of Russian regions reporting localized fuel shortages or distribution rationing.
